My Dear Reverend[1]
As I had time today I have immediately perused and translated the text you wanted. However, since it is for the first time that I find myself in this “casus mixtus” to have to translate a text from Dutch, I have been forced to look almost everything up in the dictionary in order to be sure; it has therefore caused me a good deal of work, for which, however, I do not want to charge you more than one hour. I would like to take this opportunity to remind you, Sir, that I owe you 14 kroner – hence now 10 – that I have received as payment in advance for my future “great and good deeds”.
Very best greetings to you and your family,
Yours’ truly
M Nissen[2]
[1] CB: This letter is – with the exception of the signature – very easy to read, and it is from an unknown person, who apparently has translated a document from Dutch into Danish for RMH – at an hourly fee of 4 kroner!
[2] JMC: Very difficult to see what the initial letter is? M? or H?
