MY DEAR BROTHER! IF DEAR SWEET MOTHER WAS AS HEALTHY AS I, EVERYTHING WOULD BE EXCELLENT. I AM BY NOW COMPLETELY RECOVERED, AND ALL THE OTHER DEAR PEOPLE AROUND ME ARE ALSO VERY WELL. THE ERRORS YOU FOUND IN MY PREVIOUS LETTER CANNOT BE BLAMED ON THE MACHINE. WHEN TWO LETTERS ARE TYPED ON TOP OF EACH OTHER, THE LACK OF PRACTICE OF THE TYPIST IS THE CAUSE. WHEN THE TWO LETTERS – M AND I – ARE TOO CLOSE TO OR TOO FAR AWAY FROM THE OTHER LETTERS, IT IS CAUSED BY THE MACHINE ALLOTING EACH LETTER AN EQUALLY SIZED SPACE, WHICH THE LETTER “I” IS TOO THIN TO FILL OUT, WHILE THE LETTER “M” IS TOO WIDE. AS SOON AS THE ENGRAVER MAKES THE LETTERS A BIT NARROWER, OR IF THE MACHINES IS TUNED IN SUCH A WAY THAT IT PROVIDES A SOMEWHAT LARGER AREA FOR EACH LETTER, THOSE TWO ERRORS WILL NO LONGER BE VISIBLE. – PLEASE CONVEY MY GREETINGS TO DEAR BROTHER JOHAN
